today announced results for the third quarter and nine months ended September
30, 2000.

For the quarter ended September 30, 2000, revenues increased 17% to $156.5 million compared with revenues of $133.5 million for the same period in 1999, prior to the restatement for a pooling-of-interests transaction. As was previously announced, the Company recorded a one-time restructuring charge in the third quarter 2000 of approximately $9 million as a result of writing off its wound care business. Net income increased 19% to $15.8 million, before the restructuring charge. Earnings per share increased 14% to $0.33 compared with earnings per share of $0.29 in the same quarter of last year. Including the restructuring charge, net income was $9.8 million, or $0.20 per share, for the third quarter of 2000.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2000, revenues increased 20% to $460.3 million compared with revenues of $382.8 million for the same period in 1999, prior to the restatement for a pooling-of-interests transaction. Net income increased 21% to $46.3 million, before the $9 million restructuring charge in the third quarter of 2000. Earnings per share increased 18% to $0.97 compared with earnings per share of $0.82 in the same nine-month period last year. Including the restructuring charge, net income was $36.6 million, or $0.77 per share, for the nine months ended September 30, 2000.
As restated to give effect to the merger with Renal Disease Management by Physicians, Inc. of Youngstown, Ohio, which was treated as a pooling-of-interests for accounting purposes, revenues for the third quarter ended September 30, 2000, increased 13% to $156.5 million as compared with $138.8 million for the same period in 1999. Net income before the restructuring charge and merger costs increased to $15.8 million, or $0.33 per share, compared with net income of $13.3 million, or $0.28 per share, in the same period in the prior year, an increase of 18% in earnings per share. As restated for the merger with Renal Disease Management by Physicians, revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2000, increased 15% to $460.3 million as compared with $399.3 million for 1999. Net income before the restructuring charge and merger costs for the nine months ended September 30, 2000, increased 20% to $46.3 million, or $0.97 per share, compared with net income of $38.4 million, or $0.82 per share last year, an increase of 18% in earnings per share.
Same-store treatment and same-store revenue growth were 6.7% and 11.6%, respectively, for the quarter ended September 30, 2000.
On October 2, 2000, the Company announced that its Board of Directors authorized management of the Company to invest up to $50 million to repurchase shares of the Company's common stock. To date, the Company has not purchased any stock under this program.
The Company also confirmed that it expects to report earnings per share of $0.34 for the fourth quarter of 2000. In addition, the Company anticipates generating earnings per share growth of approximately 15% in 2001, with an estimated range of $1.50 to $1.52 for the year ended December 31, 2001.
